PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston inserting device in an engine assembling work, which can be easily applied to pistons of various diameters and which is excellent in the usability. SOLUTION: A dozen of air cylinders 3 each of which has an air piston 3a which expands and contracts radially inwardly, are provided in a ring-like frame 2 which is larger than the diameter of a piston, and a piston ring R is forced into a ring groove by compressing the piston ring by means of a piston ring compressing plates 4 each of which is screwed in the air piston 3a. In this state, the piston P is press-inserted from the top into a cylindrical hole of an engine block. The supply of air to the air cylinders 3 is performed by an air supplying means 10 consisting of a regulator 11 for regulating air pressure, a speed controller 12 for adjusting the air quantity, a solenoid valve 14, and an air tube 13 for supplying the air through the above-mentioned apparatuses. This way, since the piston ring can be compressed by strokes of the air pistons 3a regardless of the diameter of the piston, an insertion work of the piston of large or small diameter can be accomplished by one type of the device.
