PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolating construction method suitably applicable to an existing building having a restriction on securing a base isolation clearance. SOLUTION: When an adjacent building B is existent contiguous to a base- isolation objective building A, a base-isolation clearance S is secured between the adjacent building B and the base-isolation objective building A by dismantling and removing a part B1 of the adjacent building. When base isolation is carried out for the high storied part of the existing building in which a low storied part and the high storied part are integrally provided, a part of the low storied part is dismantled and removed at its connecting part with the high storied part, so that the low storied part is divided from the high storied part in the horizontal direction for securing the base-isolation space S therebetween. The divided low storied part and the high storied part are connected by a connecting corridor provided with an expansion joint.
