PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a steel plate flatter by effectively correcting a shape failure at the time of rolling such as a center buckle, selvage, tip-end warping and the like by carrying out a shape correction in terms of applying a repeat bending immediately after a rolling pass of a reverse rolling. SOLUTION: Immediately after the rolling, a shape correction of a thick steel plate 3 being rolled by a hot rolling mill 2 is carried out by applying a repeat bending with a correction machine 1. Then, the steel plate 3 is rolled in an opposite direction and again rolled in an arrow direction so as to carry out a shape correction immediately after the rolling. A thick steel plate is manufactured by repeating this operation. A tensile force to the thick steel plate during a rolling and a shape correction is made available by adjusting peripheral velocities of correction rolls 1a, 1b and work rolls 2-1, and it can be effectively operated by installing the correction machine close to the hot rolling mill 2. Between the correction machine 1 and the hot rolling mill 2, a guide device 5 is installed for guiding a tip end part of the steel plate to the correction machine 1. Positioning of correction rolls 1b are adjusted to be in a same pass line as that of carrying rollers 4 so that they can be used as the carrying rollers.
