PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new antitumor antibiotic PF1201 capable of selectively inducing an apoptosis transformed with adenovirus oncogene and useful as an antitumor agent by culturing bacteria belonging to Chrysosporium. SOLUTION: This new compound is a substance PF1201 of the formula or its salt and has the following physicochemical properties or the like: (1) assuming the form of colorless powder; (2) having the molecular formula (as an ion) C71H123N16O14+; (3) having a specific rotation [α]D=-3.53 (c 1.03, MeOH, 20 deg.C); (4) soluble in methanol and difficultly soluble in water; (5) basic. The substance PF1201 is obtained by culturing Chrysosporium PF1201 strain (FERM P-16717), (pref. by the culture of the above bacteria under a aerobic condition, esp. pref. by the shaking culture of them) and by collecting the substance from culture products. The substance can exhibit antitumor action different from conventional mechanism of action and point of action, thus, the substance useful for the treatment of cancer is provided.
