<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound capable of affording a substance providing excellent control of engine deposits, especially intake valve deposits. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is polyisobutanyl derived from a highly reactive polyisobutene having an average molecular weight within the range of about 500-5,000; R2 is an about 2-6C alkylene; (x) is about 1-4], e.g. a compound represented by formula II. The compound represented by formula I can be obtained by a method for reacting, e.g. a polyisobutanyl succinic anhydride represented by formula III with a polyamine represented by the formula H2N-(R2-NH)x-H [R2 is most preferably ethylene (CH2CH2); (x) is preferably about 1 or 2] (e.g. ethylenediamine), as necessary, in a solvent at about 80-200 deg.C, preferably about 150-170 deg.C, etc. The compound is used as an additive for a hydrocarbon distillate fuel boiling within the gasoline or diesel range.</p> |
