PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a marking gauge cutting device which is free from the operating failure of a detection means and is capable of efficiently performing a cutting work through smooth reciprocal motion. SOLUTION: A circular saw 16 is made to travel back and forth with a work W and is allowed to cut into the work W shallowly in its normal travel process and makes a deep cut into the wood W in its reverse travel process to cut the entire thickness of the wood W. The circular saw 16 is driven to rotate by an electric motor 11 and at the same time, is set at a low level of load current value during idling and at a high level of load current value during cutting with the help of a detection means C which detects these levels. With the installation of this means C on the device, the circular saw 16 is rotated normally and reversely under control for its return travel motion upon an output signal from the detection means C.
