PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a controlling accuracy of a mold clamping force by reducing an influence of a frictional force operating between a coupled part of a mechanism component for constituting a mold clamping apparatus and a contact part. SOLUTION: The motor driven type mold clamping apparatus comprises a toggle mechanism for advancing or retracting a movable platen 14 to a stationary platen 11, and a servo motor 18 for driving the mechanism via a ball screw mechanism. The toggle mechanism, the platen 14 and the platen 11 are used in the state that knicking K of the toggle mechanism is set to a predetermined range and the motor 18 is driven by a current of 20% or more of its rated current to maintain a mold clamping force.
