PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a continuous casting method to manufacture a high-quality steel with difficulty of powder entrainment and superior lubricity and without powder defect by specifying the values of interfacial tension between mold powder and molten steel at a specified temperature, viscosity of the mold powder at a specified temperature, and casting velocity. SOLUTION: The relations among interfacial tensionγ(dyn/cm) between the mold powder and molten steel at 1,550 deg.C, mold powder viscosityη(poise) at 1,300 deg.C, and casting velocity Vc (m/min) are to satisfy the formula. As to the powder entrainment, the viscosity gives a large effect, and the interfacial tension between the molten steel and the powder also gives a large effect on the powder entrainment. The interfacial tension can be controlled by changing the content of CaO or Al2O3 of the powder or optimizing the molten steel components (within the range not to affect the characteristics).
