PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound FA-70C1 capable of being isolated from culture products of microorganisms belonging to Actinomycetes and capable of manifesting excellent inhibitory activity to cathepsin protease and Arg- gingipain. SOLUTION: This new compound is a FA-70C1 substance expressed by the formula or its salt. The FA-70C1 substance has the following physicochemical properties: (1) assuming the form of white powder; (2) having the empirical formula C27H43N9O7; (3) having 605.69 molecular weight; (4) readily soluble in methanol, dimethyl sulfoxide and acetonitrile, slightly soluble in ethanol and difficultly soluble in chloroform, acetone, ethyl acetate, ether and hexane; (5) decomposing at >=250 deg.C; (6) showing coloration in Ehrlich's reaction and Sakaguchi's reaction and assuming no color in ninhydrin reaction. The FA-70C1 substance of the formula is obtained by culturing bacteria belonging to Streptomyces and having the ability to produce the substance and by collecting the substance from the resultant culture products.
