Namely, in the link mechanism 30, a main support beam 31 is connected to a assisting auxiliary beam 32 by a rotating fulcrum 33 in the middle part, and the other ends of link members 35 connected to both ends of the support beam 31 and auxiliary beam 32 by rotating joints 34 are collected to one point, and connected to the structural bodies 14, 15 of the upper and lower floors by a pin 36. According to this, when a middle base isolation layer building is shaken by an earthquake to cause an interlayer deformation S in the base isolation layer E, the escalator is expanded and contracted as the movement of the link mechanism 30 so as to follow the interlayer deformation, whereby the dropping-out is prevented.
