PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an up/down type positioning stopping device which is capable of positioning at any plural points by making a butt detection part as an up/down type. SOLUTION: This stopping device is composed of a pedestal 5 installed on a base of a travel unit U wherein a butt detection part 3 is formed with a bar-like arm 1 and a tip end butting part 2, a supporting shaft 4 is freely rotatable making a base of the detecting part as a fulcrum while, an elevating device 7 having a connecting part 6 for making the tip end butting part 2 of the butt detecting part 3 freely rotate and elevate with the supporting shaft 4 as a center. The device is also equipped with a receiving member 9 on a guide rail 8, which travels the travelling unit U, for receiving the tip end butting part 2 of the detecting part 3 by an engagement when the tip end butting part 2 of the detecting part 3 is raised by an operation of the elevating device 7; and furthermore when the device 7 is descended via the connecting part 6, the butting part 2 of the detecting part 3 is rotatingly descended with the shaft 4 as a center so as to make the butting part 2 passable over the position of the receiving member 9.
