PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate the subject furnace by proper energy corresponding to a production number. SOLUTION: A coating drying furnace is a chevron-shaped one and at least a pair of a falling gradient part 14 and a rising gradient part 15 are provided to the intermediate zone 13 between a furnace inlet zone 11 and a furnace outlet zone 12. At a time of decreased production, a hot air supply device 19C is stopped to bake a coating film only by a first chevron-shaped drying furnace 16.
