PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly shrinkable nylon fiber comprising the copolymer of nylon 6 with nylon 66, capable of giving a high density woven fabric shrunk without causing an irregular shrinkage, when woven and subsequently thermally treated, by controlling the product of a hot water shrinkage rate with a maximum thermal stress to a prescribed value or larger. SOLUTION: This highly shrinkable nylon fiber comprises nylon 6 and nylon 66, and has a hot water shrinkage rate (%) of 20-50, a maximum thermal stress (mg/d) of 220-400 and their product of >=7,000 (%.mg/d). The highly shrinkable nylon fiber is obtained from the nylon-6/nylon 66 copolymer preferably containing an amorphous polyamide containing aromatic dicarboxylic acid units as main constituting units in an amount of 3-10 wt.%. The method for producing the highly shrinkable nylon fiber comprises melt-spinning the copolymer by a direct spinning-drawing method, cooling and solidifying the spun yarn, oiling the solidified yarn, thermally drawing the oiled yarn at a drawing temperature of >=110 deg.C in a drawing ratio of <=3.0, and subsequently taking off the drawn yarn at a taking rate of >=2,000 m/min.
