A method of brancing polystyrene polymers and co-polymers of it for the formation of macroplegmatic materials of an Mc 30.000 - 5.000 is described, the materials forming an insoluble gel which is shaped in an extruder to form 3 to 5 centimetres pieces and is subject to sulphonation with dense sulphuric acid, with Oleum sulphuric acid, with sulphur trioxide and with chlorosulphonic acid, with the introduction of nitric groups to a high density and with the introduction of carboxylic groups with the copolymer of styrene - acrylonitrile. The chlorosulphonic acid promotes sulphonation and brancing with the introduction of bridges with the sulphonic group which is controlled with the promotion of a 10-15 % acetic acid regulator and an insoluble volume of gel is formed which following drainage of the solvent is subject to processing with 30 % caustic soda following which, and with an abundance of alkalis the macroplegmatic material flows under stirring and heating and is collected and subject to a processing in the extruder for the preparation of 3-5 cm pieces. |
