PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier-fluidized bed type septic tank simple in structure and being hardly affected by sludge generated in the tank. SOLUTION: This septic tank is provided with a carrier fluidization vessel E1 in which a carrier C is received and held, wherein the carrier C is formed so as to be fluidizable together with water to be treated, in such a state that microbes are deposited on the carrier C. In this carrier fluidization vessel E1, a carrier dam G for allowing the water to be treated to flow through the carrier dam G to its outside and also preventing the carrier C from flowing through the carrier dam G to its outside, is placed, to partition the fluidization vessel E1 into two sections, i.e., an upper section and a lower section, to receive the carrier on the side above the carrier dam G and to allow the water to flow from the side above the carrier dam G to the downstream side, wherein an air diffuser tube D is placed on the side above the carrier dam G so as to be a certain distance apart from the carrier dam G and an air diffusion control mechanism for changing the amount of air supply to the air diffuser tube D is also placed.
