PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new ester compound having oxidation stability, and both a high viscosity index and a low-temperature fluidity and a lubricating oil composition containing the ester compound. SOLUTION: This polyhydric alcohol ester compound of a mixed carboxylic acid containing a tertiary carboxylic acid and a secondary carboxylic acid has 120-3,000 number-average molecular weight in which the number of carbons bonded to carbons at theα-positions of the carboxylic acids constituting the reacted mixed carboxylic acid, the number of total carbons, the number of carbons at the side chain of alkyl group and the number of carbons of the main chain of alkyl group satisfy a fixed relation. This lubricating oil composition contains the polyhydric alcohol ester compound.
