PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate defective positions of a raw roll of ink ribbons by providing a recording part for recording row information on the row of the ink ribbon raw roll from which the ink ribbon is prepd. on an ink ribbon. SOLUTION: A method for discriminating the defective position of an ink ribbon raw roll for preparing an ink ribbon wherein sublimation type ink ribbon 30 prepd. by slitting an ink ribbon raw roll 24 into a plurality of rows (rows A, B and C) is provided and there exist recording parts A, B and C of row information indicating from which row among a plurality of rows of the raw roll 24 the ink ribbon 30 is prepd. and when a defect is generated, it is discriminated that on which row of the ink ribbon raw roll 24 the defect is generated, is provided.
