PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter to be installed within a certain finite dimension in axial direction, which can exert an excellent performance through adjustment of the size and position of each component. SOLUTION: This torque converter 1 is equipped with a front cover 14, impeller 18, turbine 19, and stator 20. The impeller 18 is located at the front cover 14 on its transmission side and constitutes a fluid chamber together with the front cover 14, and inside thereof a plurality of blades 23 are installed. In the fluid chamber, the turbine 19 is located at the impeller 18 on its engine side, and another plurality of blades 26 are installed on the side opposing to the impeller 18, and it is possible to feed a torque to the transmission. The stator 20 is located between the impeller 18 and the inside circumferential surface of the turbine 19 and adjusts the flow of the fluid going from the turbine 19 to the impeller 18. The impeller 18, turbine 19, and stator 20 constitute a torus 6, which has a flatness L/H of 0.7 or less, where L is the shaft dimension and H is the radius. The shaft dimension Lt of the turbine 19 is made smaller than the shaft dimension Lp of the impeller 18.
