PURPOSE: An accounting memory protection apparatus and method of electronic cash register is provided to protect an opening of the account memory by connecting a screw coupled a case of account memory with a resistor. CONSTITUTION: The accounting memory protection apparatus comprises an opening sensing part sensing whether a case having an accounting memory in which sale data is recorded is open or not, an alarm generating an alarm sound, and a controller deciding whether an opener is adequate or not when the case is opened and operating the alarm when the opener is not adequate. The opening sensing part includes an accounting memory case protecting the accounting memory by connecting the case with the body, a screw coupled the accounting to the body, a variable resistor locating at the opposite location of the screw and connecting with the screw when the accounting memory case is coupled, and having a rotation knob changing resist value according to the rotation of the screw.
