PURPOSE: A ginseng saponin compound is prepared which has a good anticancer effect. CONSTITUTION: The ginseng saponin compound(formula 1; R1 is hydrogen, beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl, beta-D-glucopyranosyl and beta-D-(6''-O-acetyl)-glucopyranosyl(1→)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl; R2 is hydrogen or OR3; R3 is beta-D-glucopyranosyl or beta-D-(6'-O-acetyl)glucopyranosyl) is prepared. Thus, 100 g of ginseng is heated at 130°C for 2 hours, followed by extraction of 500 ml of methyl alcohol, and extracted by 300 ml of ether three times. Obtained product is extracted by ethyl acetate three times to produce 3.5 g of compound containing the title compound.
