PURPOSE: A method and device for controlling escalator operating are provided to prevent loading performance from decreasing and consuming power from increasing. CONSTITUTION: The escalator driving control device has: a current detecting unit(10) detecting current of an inducing electromotor(3); a trouble detecting unit(20) judging if there is a trouble by inputting the signal of the current detecting unit and a passenger detecting unit(5) through an inputting unit(4e); and a driving setting unit(30) outputting the driving pattern of the escalator by deciding according to the result value of the trouble detecting unit. The driving control device judges the trouble by sequentially judging the output of the passenger detecting unit and if there is a trouble in an admission part detector, the device conducts an automatic drive by the current of the inducing electromotor and an exit detector.
