PURPOSE: An adaptation play method according to optical disk and device thereof is provided to play an optical disk without regard to disk type. CONSTITUTION: The adaptation play method according to optical disk and device thereof comprises the steps of determining a kind of an optical disk which is inserted; downloading a decoding program of a record data in response to the kind of disk; decoding a reading data of the optical disk. In the first step, also determined a kind of the optical disk using a focus error signal or a reading information of playing catalogue which is red from an initial access of the optical disk. The adaptation play method according to optical disk and device thereof comprises a storage unit, a distinction unit, and a decoding unit.
