PURPOSE: A method for generating error in a transmission path is provided to test an exchange network. CONSTITUTION: If the user selects one among various bit error rates. the error generation method calculates (204) a range of PN code at which error is generated according to the user-selected bit error rate. Whenever the PN code is included into the range of the PN code at which the error is generated, the method inverts (210) the input bit from the transmission path in response to the generation of the PN code, and outputs the inverted input bit. Thereby, the error is provided with various bit rates, and is provided as a burst unit.
