A brake pad and support assembly 10 for a disc brake comprises a pad having friction material 14 and a support plate 16 provided with a projection 16b, and a slideway 11 for supporting the pad. In use, surface 14a of the friction material engages a brake disc to apply a braking force. The slideway is constituted by rods 12 which allow sliding of the pad normal to the engaging surface 14a and tilting of the support plate, against bias of anti-rattle leaf spring 30, about an axis parallel with the rods in order to bring the pad into a position in which it can transmit forces received thereby to a rod 12. The rods may be provided by bolts or by sleeves e.g.of light metal or plastics through which bolts extend. |
