PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method by which the luminance of copying light is accurately controlled by a simple method and image information is exposed on a photosensitive recording material. SOLUTION: A digital image generating device 3 is a device to generate a digital image and to copy it on printing paper 1 on a paper table 2 through an objective lens 4 and is provided with an optical modulation unit controller 5, an optical modulation unit 6, an illuminator 7 and a controller 10, a computer 11, an LUT 12 and an optical measuring device 14 which are mutually connected to form a control circuit. The optical measuring device 13 is provided with many detectors 14. The detector 14 measures the luminance of light having a spectral component whose exposure color is different and detects a spectral shift and illuminance fluctuation. A current by which an LED array 8 is driven is obtained by the computer 11 based on the peculiar value to the printing paper 1 stored in the LUT 12 by using this result so that the light quantity of the light outputted by the illuminator 7 is controlled by the controller 10. Thus, the fluctuation of the copying light is compensated.
