PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope constituted so that the damage of a sample such as deformation or discoloration is reduced. SOLUTION: The change amount of an image signal inputted to processors 9 and 11 is detected. When the change amount of the image signal is under a previously decided value, the illuminance of illumination light on the sample A is reduced to such an extent that the change amount of the image signal can be detected and the image signal obtained just before the illuminance is reduced is transmitted to a monitor 10 as a still picture. When the change amount of the image signal is equal to or over the previously decided value, the illuminance is increased to be sufficient to display the picture of the sample A and the image signal obtained at this time is transmitted to the monitor 10 as the moving picture.
