PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the amount of a multiple-rotation steering regardless of simple structure by comparing the information of a speed sensor with that of a yaw rate sensor and calculating the approximate steering angle of multiple rotation and then correcting it based on the signal of an absolute steering sensor. SOLUTION: An absolute steering sensor 1 outputs such absolute steering signal as a gray code that is uniquely set to 360 deg. cycle, and the rotary shaft is directly coupled to the steering shaft of a vehicle. A speed sensor 2 detects the traveling speed of the vehicle and a yaw rate sensor 3 detects the rotary angle speed in the direction of the yaw angle of the vehicle. While the vehicle is still, a signal within 360 deg. can be obtained from the sensor 1. However, no signal is obtained from the yaw rate sensor 3. When the vehicle moves even slightly, the behavior of the vehicle can be detected from signals from the sensors 2 and 3 and the amount of steering angle of multiple rotation can be calculated by a microcomputer 4. By correcting it based on the signal of the sensor 1, an accurate amount of steering can be obtained.
