摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unidirectional optical amplifier which unidirectionally amplifies light by using electrons in a vacuum and light oozing into the vacuum out of a dielectric optical waveguide which delays light. SOLUTION: A unidirectional optical amplifier is constituted by arranging an electron radiating section 1 and the optical amplification section 2 which unidirectionally amplifies light 12 inputted by utilizing the energy received from an electron beam 4 radiated from the electron radiating section 1. The optical amplification section 2 is composed of a dielectric substrate 5 on which a dielectric optical waveguide 6 is formed in the traveling direction (z-direction) of the electron beam 4 and a pair of electron beam converging electrodes 9 and 10 faced oppositely to each other on both sides of the waveguide 6. The dielectric substrate 5 is arranged in such a way that the substrate 5 can generate the electric field component E of light in the traveling direction (z-direction) of the beam 4 and, at the same time, can decrease the traveling speed of light in the traveling direction (z-direction) of the beam 4.
