PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make inconspicuous line joints of respective scanning areas by a simple and low-cost method, in a picture tube device which scans each of plural divided areas of a screen by one or more electron guns. SOLUTION: A boundary area 7 is formed between a right edge 5 of a scanning line 3 (shown at the top) horizontally deflected in a left scanning area 1 and a left edge 6 of a scanning line 4 (the same line as the scanning line 3) horizontally deflected in a right scanning area 2, while a boundary 7' is formed between a right edge 5' of a scanning line 3' below the scanning line 3 in the left scanning area 1 and a left edge 6' of a scanning line 4' below the scanning line 4 in the right scanning area 2. Scanning is performed by each electron gun of the two scanning areas 1, 2 such that the boundary 7 and the boundary 7' do not vertically adjoin each other, that is, the boundary 7 and the boundary 7' are horizontally dispersed.
