PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic reproducing device that can share the phase control of a capstan in two modes, for instance a VHS mode and a DHS mode, and can reduce the circuit size. SOLUTION: This magnetic reproducing device is provided with a counter reset based on a reference clock F and self-reset at least once in the period of the reference clock. In a timing generation circuit 4, timing signals A and B having frequencies higher than that of the reference clock F. In a synthesizing circuit 5, the reference signal F and the signals A and B are inputted, and a trapezoidal wave signal P is synthesized by using a logical circuit or the like based on a mode selected by a mode input signal SEL. Then, in a sampling circuit 7, phase control is performed for the capstan by using an inclination section included in the trapezoidal wave signal P. Thus, the magnetic reproducing device obtains the trapezoidal wave signal P for two modes with a simple circuitry.
