IP PACKET TRANSFER DEVICE USING ATM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transfer an ATM cell to a path decided by an IP address by a packet unit by giving network management cells or the like to a software processing section and giving communication data cells to a 2nd switch section. SOLUTION: A 1st switch section 104 sends a cell received from a VPI/VCI conversion section 103 to either a software processing section 111 or a 2nd switch section 105 based on control information of th 1st switch section 104. A 2nd switch section 105 sends a cell received from the 1st switch section 104 to any of n-sets of cell insertion sections 106 based on output port information of the cell. The software processing section 111 reconfigures the cell received from the 1st switch section 104 into an IP packet and applies ICMP processing and SNMP processing to the IP packet and disassemblies the processed packet into cells and sends them to a cell insert section 106. The cell insert section 106 inserts the cell received from the software processing section 111 into a cell stream sent from the 2nd switch section 105.
