PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hand scanner which can read precise images. SOLUTION: When an image from an original is read by manually scanning on the original, the moving amount of this scanner is measured by a first moving amount sensor 2 and a second moving amount sensor 3, and both of the measured moving amounts are compared by a control part 7 and a moving amount sensor which is determined to be large in the moving amount is selected. Then, every time the moving amount from the first moving amount sensor or the second moving amount sensor 3 reaches a normalized distance amount, the image read by a contact sensor 1 is fetched, the fetched image is stored in a memory 5, is connected to a main body such as facsimile equipment later on and printed or transmitted by the body.
