PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic scale in which a flexible magnet is prevented from swelling due to adhesion of lubricant. SOLUTION: The bade plate 3 and the surface protective plate 4 of a magnetic scale 1 have width and length larger by one order than those of a flexible magnet 2 sandwiched between. Consequently, a groove is formed between the outer circumferential projecting parts 31-34 and 41-44 of the bade plate 3 and the surface protective plate 4 on the outer circumference of the groove is filed with sealant 5 covering the outer circumferential side faces 23-26 of the flexible magnet. Since the surface, rear surface and outer circumferential side face of the flexible magnet 2 are covered entirely, the flexible magnet 2 is prevented from swelling due to adhesion of lubricant even if the magnetic scale 1 is placed in an atmosphere where lubricant is scattered.
