PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for managing character data and a storage medium with which the labor of a user can be reduced by half by performing automatic processing so as to leave the type face of high use frequency in the storage device of a printer at all the time when the type face to be deleted is generated among already downloaded type faces. SOLUTION: This device has a CPU 1 for discriminating whether the character data of a new type face can be downloaded to a storage device for character data or not based on the currently not-occupied capacity of the storage device for character data provided in a printer, downloading the character data of the new type face when downloading is enabled, and executing a character data managing/selecting control program for deleting the character data of the selected type face when downloading is disabled.
