PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-acid battery improved in volume efficiency by minimizing the large space volume above the level of an electrolyte in relation to the lead-acid battery having a fluidic electrolyte with the liquid level positioned above an electrode group and having a large space above the electrolyte surface, hardly suffering fremdamage even if the lead-acid battery itself catches fire and explode, and not terminating its service life by the limit of its electrolyte. SOLUTION: A tank 17 is so formed as to cover a space 16 above the surface of an electrolyte, an electrolyte/refined water mixture 24 is received in the tank 17 with the air 23 left in a part thereof, a nearly vertically formed nozzle 25 reaching the electrolyte 15 is installed in the undersurface of the tank 17, a small space 16a is formed in a place above the electrolyte surface that is not occupied by the tank, and an exhaust port 6 communicating with the atmosphere is installed in the top wall of the small space above the electrolyte surface.
