PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the radio selective calling receiver by which the presence and number of unread messages are easily confirmed by kinds of messages. SOLUTION: In the case that a timer 19 detects expiration of time and stops automatically a call notice, attribute of an unread message is given to a received message. When a calling notice is manually stopped before the timer 19 expires, the received message is discriminated to be an already read message and the respective messages are discriminated by their kinds and stored in a memory section 15 in the order of reception, an unread item number counter 17 counts number of items of the unread messages stored in the memory section 15 by kinds of the messages (J68 and a display section 22 displays count information of the unread message numbers by the message kinds.
