ORGANIC EL ELEMENT AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain high quality light-emitting display over long term and to increase the rate of a light-emitting surface of a display device. SOLUTION: Transparent electrodes 14 made of a transparent electrode material such as ITO are formed on the surface of a transparent substrate, such as glass or a resin. A light-emitting layer 16 made of the EL element is piled on the transparent electrodes 14. A back electrode 18 is piled on the light-emitting layer 16, facing opposite the transparent electrodes 14. The whole surface of the light-emitting layer 16 and the back electrode 18 is coated with a water-repellent film 22, such as wax. An insulating protection member 26 seals the light-emitting layer 16, as well as the water-repellent film 22.
