PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil tempered wire causing little scattering of oxide scales during wire processing. SOLUTION: An adhesive amount of Zn on a wire surface should be 0.02 g/m2 or less. It is desirable for an adhesive amount of Ca to be 0.1 g/m2 or less or an adhesive amount of Mo to be 0.01 g/m2 or less. An amount of component elements of a wire drawing lubricant member adhered to the wire surface of an oil tempered wire for a spring effects scattering of scales. Therefore, by limiting the adhesive amount of components, the scattering amount of oxide scales can be inhibited. To limit the adhesive amount, a drawing process should be performed without using a zinc phosphate film generally used as a wire drawing lubricant film or a steel wire surface should be cleaned mechanically, chemically, or electrically after drawing or before heat treating.
