PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-sided original readable image reader which is small in size, low in cost and capable of printing specified information and data at the time of reading a double-sided original. SOLUTION: This image reader has front side image reading means 2 to 6 and 31 for reading image the front side of an original, rear side image reading means 15 to 17 for reading image on the rear side of the original, and printing means 18 and 19 which performs printing processing to a reference printing position when the reference print position being away by a specified distance from a reading area end part on the original front side in a carrier path reaches a print place in the carrier path, in the carrier path of an automatic document feeder. In the image reaer which can read a double-sided original, the print processing by the printing means 18 and 19 is interrupted, if the rear side image reading means 15 to 17 are in the middle of executing original reading when the reference print position reaches the print position.
