PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary melting furnace for efficiently conducting a metal melting operation by effectively and safely monitoring a state in a furnace and a method for melting the metal by using the furnace. SOLUTION: An optical sensor for monitoring a state in a rotary melting furnace such as, for example, a monitoring camera 11 is installed in a through- hole 10 provided at a cover 7 or an exhaust duct 8 of the furnace to observe by a monitor 13. A color sample display 15 is conducted in the monitor 13, compared with a color of a melt, and a temperature is decided. Burning conditions of an oxygen burner 6 are changed according to the state in the furnace obtained by the motor 11 or the like.
