PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a unit for supplying cold air to a machine tool in which precooling time can be shortened when the machine tool is operated again after temporal stoppage. SOLUTION: This cooling air supply unit 1 comprises a flow rate control valve 8 arranged in a cooling air supply passage between a cooler 51 and a cooling air nozzle 6. At the time of temporary stoppage of a machine tool M, a valve drive circuit 91 switches the flow rate control valve 8 from full-open state to slight open state thus bringing about a waiting operation where cold air flows at a micro flow rate. Since cold air flows continuously, precooling time required for restarting operation of the machine tool M can be shortened and total operational efficiency can be enhanced correspondingly.
