PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract numerical expression in a document, to convert this into a numerical value, to register it, and to use it for document retrieval. SOLUTION: Numerical information is extracted from a document, and registered in an information storing means 3003 by a numerical registering means 3002. When any vagueness is generated in the interpretation of the numerical value, overlap registration is operated. A retrieval condition is inputted by a condition inputting means 3004, and an information storing means 3006 is retrieved by a retrieving means 3005, and the result is outputted by a display means 3007. At the time of outputting the result, the selection, shaping, or re-arrangement of the results is operated according to the kind of the numerical information.
