PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve combustion properties and combustion efficiency and further safety by causing stable flame combustion downstream a catalyst combustion section even when mixed air supplied to a catalyst is less than a predetermined concentration (dilute concentration region) and even at a low temperature (low temperature region) in a catalyst assisted combustion system. SOLUTION: A burner 1 is adapted such that it includes a burner body 2, a combustion catalyst 3 provided in the burner body 2, a fuel supply nozzle 4 for supplying a fuel to the upstream side of the combustion catalyst 3, an ignition apparatus 5 for forcedly combusting a flame by igniting non-combusted mixed air existent downstream the combustion catalyst 3, a flame detector 6, and an alarm apparatus 7.
