A radio module (110) associated with a photocopier (100), receives signals over an interface such as an Ethernet (RTM) connection (108, 109) from sensors in the copier. These indicate the presence of a user, such as keyboard or touch-screen input, cover position, or original presence. In response to these conditions one or more parameters such as power, frequency band, modulation type or index, or spread spectrum characteristics, are changed for a fixed duration, after which all parameters revert to their initial values. Independent claims are included for a method of parameter modification in a radio link, a network using the invention, and for equipment incorporating the device of the invention, including a computer, a copier, a facsimile, a printer, a scanner, a camera, and an information terminal.
