PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable editing so as not to overlap a human name or the like with a subordinate routine part even when the number of characters to be inserted is changed at a high-speed printer. SOLUTION: Concerning the printer having an overlay memory and a high- speed printer capable of printing print data at a speed higher than that of rasterizing processing, this device is provided with a print data input means for inputting the print data, raster control means having a raster processing part for identifying the print data 1 into routine section 2, subordinate routine section 3 to be combined with a true variable section and true variable section 1O and rasterizing the routine section 2, subordinate routine section 3 and true variable section 10, and print processing means having an overlay data holding means for holding the previously rasterized routine section and subordinate routine section, the true variable section rasterized by the raster processing part is combined with the subordinate routine section by the print processing means and further, the routine section is combined with this section and printed.
