PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a very convenient and epoch-making ruler body. SOLUTION: This ruler body consists of a first long member 1 having a reference surface in the side part, a second long member 2 which is pivotally fixed to a specified part of the first long member 1 and has a reference surface on the side part, and a continuously connected bridge member 3 wherein one end portion is pivotally fixed to a specified part of the second long member 2, and the other end portion can slide freely on the surface of the first long member 1 in the longitudinal direction of the first long member 1. On the surface part position of the first long member 1, graduations 4 are installed in specified part positions along the traveling direction where the other end portion of the bridge member 3 slides and moves. An index part 5 indexing the graduations 4 is installed in the other end portion of the bridge member 3.
