PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing controller which can process, edit, and print alternative information even when information can not be obtained from a specified information source by deciding whether or not information can normally be acquired and laying out and outputting obtained information or alternative information according to the decision result. SOLUTION: A CPU 1 decides whether or not desired information can be obtained normally by executing control programs stored in a ROM 2 and a secondary storage device 5. When it is decided that the desired information can be acquired normally, the obtained desired information is stored in the secondary storage device 5. When not on the other hand, previously set alternative information is read out and laid out by executing control programs stored in the ROM 2 and secondary storage device 5 by the CPU 1. The secondary storage device 5 stores the alternative information in advance, so even if the unexpected state that the desired information can not be obtained from the specified address occurs, the alternative information can securely be outputted.
