The fixed portion of the head drum has three protrusions (16, 17, 18) on its base which are of unequal length, such that the angle of inclination required to achieve correct track alignment on the tape is achieved when the drum is bolted to the recorder chassis. This angle, approximately 5o 56', is thus achieved by height of the drum protrusions themselves and an intermediate mounting plate is not required. An Independent claim is included for a video tape recorder (VTR) using the fixed drum portion as described in the invention.
