PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate necessity for replacing a differential case total unit, so that an area receiving the largest amount of wearing can be replaced. SOLUTION: This differential is provided with a pair of inserts 50 used in a pair of holes 46 opposed to each other in a differential case 12. These holes 46 using each insert 50 receive each end part of a pinion shaft 44. Each insert 50 is a plug-shaped member press fitted into each hole 46. Each insert 50 is preferable formed with a powdered metal by a net forming method. The insert 50 thus formed, harder than a metal used in the differential case 12, has higher wearing resistance and additional porosity held by adding a lubricant to a critical wearing area. An end part of the insert 50 protruded in the differential case 12 is used for forming a flat thrust surface to be hit by one of combination pinions 42 of the pinion shaft 44.
