PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize communication of high quality without interruption by estimating not only a present signal reception situation but also a subsequent one on a plurality of reception systems based on the average change rate of a reception level and selecting the optimum reception system. SOLUTION: In a space diversity reception device having the antennas A and B of two systems, the antennas A and B are basically switched and operated. A reception level detection part 14 momentarily measures the reception levels of the respective antennas and the measured result is compared with a previous measurement value stored in a storage circuit 17 in a comparison circuit 15 and the result is sent to a judgement circuit 16. The judgement circuit 16 estimates the subsequent reception situation of the signal and selects the antenna system based on the sizes of the reception levels of the antennas A and B, a level difference, a threshold, the size of the average change rate of the reception level, and a relation between the difference of the average change rate and the threshold. When the reception level difference and the difference of the average change rate exceed the respective thresholds, the time period when the sizes of the reception levels are maintained is estimated, and the reception time ratio of the reception antennas A and B is set with bias.
